Christy Carlson Romano is opening up about a scary accident that sent her to the hospital and nearly cost her an eye.

On Saturday (February 8), the Even Stevens alum detailed the gruesome injury she sustained while celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney's 42nd birthday the previous day, per E! News. Romano took her husband to shoot clay pigeons in their hometown of Austin, Texas, as a gift, but the day took a turn when she was injured after someone in another party "unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face."

The Kim Possible voice actress shared more about the terrifying ordeal in a video on her Instagram, giving followers a look at her bruised face and bloody eye while admitting that she feels "grateful" to be alive. She opened the video by bluntly stating, "So I got shot in the eye, it was not fun," before stressing that she is "safe" now.

Romano went on to detail her injuries that resulted from her being hit by fragments in multiple spots around her face, including right below her eye. After her husband "rushed" her to the hospital, doctors told her how one fragment that managed to get behind her eye is "too risky" to be removed and has to be monitored. Fortunately, she can still "see normally."

"I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye," she added in the caption. "Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment)."

The Cadet Kelly star said the experience made her realize how quickly life can change and to tell the people you care about that you love them every chance you get.

"With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive," she said. "I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."
